Apple Music reveals the 100 best albums of all time

Universal Music Group represents 44% of this top of excellence

Apple Music announces the launch of 100 Best Albums, Apple Music’s definitive list of the best albums of all time. Crafted with the help of artists and experts, it’s a love letter to the albums that shaped the world we live and listen to.

100 Best Albums also aims to consider the diversity of sounds that have come to define the 21st century. To do this, they moved the centre of their list from the 60s and 70s to the 90s – a decade that continues to make its impact on music felt today. This is one of the reasons why you can find several different genres in this initiative. Hip-hop – a genre that has driven popular culture more than any other – is strongly represented, followed by soul and R&B, then rock and alternative music. True to diversity, we can also find pop, dance and electronic albums as well as music by singer-songwriters, jazz, reggae, country and Latin music.

The carefully chosen voting panel included Apple Music’s own team of experts, along with a select group of artists including Pharrell Williams, J Balvin, Charli XCX, Mark Hoppus, Honey Dijon and Nia Archives, as well as songwriters, producers and industry professionals. It is an editorial statement, inspired by a deep connection to music and the people who create it, and completely independent of any streaming numbers on the platform.

Apple Music brings 100 Best Albums to life with a countdown that has been revealing 10 albums per day since the beginning of last week on the 100 Best microsites, new and exclusive content, dedicated radio shows on Apple Music and more.

Today we celebrate the reveal of the last 10 albums with a special roundtable broadcast worldwide on Apple Music, with guest artists Nile Rodgers and Maggie Rogers who will talk about the list alongside Apple Music’s well-known Zane Lowe and Ebro Darden.
