The 2024 edition of Linha de Fuga will be presented on October 15 at 11:00 at Salão Brazil in Coimbra by director and curator Catarina Saraiva.
This year, the theme is “Facing Fears” in an edition that will take place between November 1 and 30 in various locations in the city of Coimbra and beyond.
As we can read on the official festival website, “Throughout November, Linha de Fuga proposes a program of shows, performances, talks, and workshops that suggest ‘Facing Fears’ as a way to reach a more harmonious and just society. After a pandemic that confined us at home, with a real fear of death, society faces its hangover, in a constant suspension of the future and a global anxiety crisis, with real fears: social and economic precariousness, climate crises, wars, fascism…”
Following the trajectory left by previous editions, the 2024 edition of Linha de Fuga brings us artists from various fields as well as from different countries: Raquel André (PT), Marina Guzzo (BR), Malicho Vaca (CL), Inês Campos (PT), Paloma Calle (ES), Francisco Thiago Cavalcanti (BR/PT), Elizabete Francisca (PT), and Julia Salem (BR/PT) plus three local artists: Malu Patury with Thales Luz, Jorgette Dumby, and Keissy Carvelli.
The festival also hosts a program of talks on the theme “How to collectively face our fears?” curated by the Observatório de masculinidades of CES/UC and Catarina Silva with various invited guests and areas of knowledge.
In parallel to the festival, an international artistic creation laboratory takes place. Thirteen artists from different backgrounds and countries will be in residence in Coimbra for 3 weeks to work, provoke, reflect, and develop their artistic practices, bringing with them individual projects that aim to create a dialogue with the city and its audiences about how they confront individual and social fears.
