Colombia’s victory over Paraguay allowed Lionel Messi’s team and company to secure second place in Group B.
The Argentine national team stamped on Sunday to qualify for the quarter-finals of the Copa America, beating Qatar’s congener 2-0 in Group B’s third and final matchday.
The first goal of the match came in four minutes when a colossal error in the defense of the guest team left the ball at the feet of Lautaro Martínez, who just had to shoot the back of the net.
Already in the second half, Sergio Aguero signed a moment of pure ‘magic’. Received the ball of Paulo Dybala, left behind two opponents and shot to the goal that ended all doubts.
A meeting in which FC Porto’s summer captain Renzo Saravia was the right-back for the Albiceleste defense and Sporting’s Marcos Acuña came in 55 minutes for Giovani Lo Celso.
After finishing the game, Argentina finished Group B in second place with four points. Something only possible because, at the same time, Colombia, led by Portuguese Carlos Queiroz, won Paraguay 1-0 and cemented the lead, with nine points added in nine possible.
The Albiceleste side already knows that in the quarter-finals they will face second-placed Venezuela Group A. Colombia will have to wait until Monday to find out if they face Chile, Uruguay or Japan.
