Art prepares to take to the streets in the historical center of São Brás de Alportel

Already in its 6th edition, the original event “Sidewalks, Art comes to the Street” once again invaded the streets and alleys of the Historic Center of São Brás de Alportel with culture and animation, yesterday, August 14th.

From 8 pm visitors were surprised by artistic creations, design, sculpture, photography, moments of music and dance, but also poetry and even chilling tales… art peeked around corners and alleys and invited to a magical night, in which could hear the heartbeat of the village!

To accompany the tour, there was no shortage of snacks, local products and of course lots of handicrafts to bring original pieces that bring the mastery of time.

The animation program integrates 14 moments, spread over 7 different spaces.

The animated Al-fanfare started playing at Largo de São Sebastião at 8:30 pm. The Parro do Adro da Matriz Church was once again the meeting point of dance, with performances by the São Brás de Alportel Municipal Dance School and the Algarve Dance Company.

In the alternative “À do Calçada” space, in the courtyard of the old Episcopal Palace at 9:15 pm we hear Rattle N Strum, Beatrice and DJ Solitaire.

The Stage of the Old Square opened at 9 pm and featured the performances of fado singer Freire Argentina, the group Campaniças do Mira (traditional) and also the moments of hilarious comedy with Jorge Serafim.

At the Vila Adentro Stage, where very special moments are always reserved, the animation began at 9:30 pm with the performances of Big Six (rock), The Wax Flamingos (blues / rock) and the long awaited performance of the group Who is Bob? (reggae), a tribute to Bob Marley!

The little ones had in the Municipal Library their special corner with two storytelling sessions with the Itinerant Troubadours, at 9.30 pm and 10.30 pm, in addition to many face paintings.

And to keep the tradition, when the 12 beats struck, in Calçadinha it was time to hear “Stories of the Creepy”, by Maria José Carocinho and Fernando Guerreiro

At the Arts and Crafts Center, it was also possible to visit the exhibitions “The Beginnings” by Jolita Yamuna and “Subnigrum: Fronteira” by Ana Vieira Ribeiro, the result of a partnership established with MUSEU ZERO, one of the novelties of this 6th edition. Sidewalks, always towards the valorization of the arts in the region.

Speaking of art, she went out into the street and looms in the window, beyond the exhibits she could find, sneaking through “open doors to art” that surprises here and there, some windows will be even more beautiful, fruit of another edition of the contest “The Most Beautiful Window”, an artistic challenge to owners and residents that is part of the event.

In the wake of the fight to reduce pollution caused by excessive use of plastic, the 6th edition of Calçada was even more environmentally friendly.

Similar to the measure adopted at Feira da Serra, also in this event, no disposable plastic cups were used. Visitors could purchase reusable glasses at the liquor stores or bring a reusable glass with them.

This event was free admission, with activities for the whole family on the sidewalks of the historic center of são brasense. An initiative included in the Historic Center Revitalization Plan, promoted by the São Brás de Alportel City Council in partnership with the “Calçada Organizing Committee”, an informal group from the São Paulo community.
