The Fundamental Laws of Human Stupidity are back

After having sold out several performances at the Trindade INATEL Theatre, “The Fundamental Laws of Human Stupidity” returns for a short season at the Villaret Theatre. There are only six exclusive presentations on 24, 25 and 26 February and 3, 4 and 5 March.

The cast is composed by João de Brito in interpretation, staging and dramaturgy, Noiserv in music and Raquel Fradique in drawing.

The show is part of the iconic essay by Carlo M. Cipolla, which makes a comical and deeply philosophical analysis of human behaviour and the dangers of stupidity. A satire that turns a butcher’s shop into the perfect stage to reflect on modern times and humanity’s greatest enemy: stupidity.

SYNOPSIS

The Fundamental Laws of Human Stupidity is an essay by Carlo Cipolla from 1973 in which the Italian economic historian defined, in a rather comical way, human behaviour based on our actions and the consequences they have on others. For Cipolla, the great danger of humanity is stupidity and the stupid, people who manage to harm themselves and others and which unfortunately proliferate in all quarters of society. 50 years later, João de Brito decided to take this philosophical and political text to the scene, putting the action in a butcher’s shop and calling various arts to accompany it in the staging, in a show that is intended to be both a reflection on our times and the greatest of our enemies, stupidity.

These six exclusive performances are a co-production of the Força de Produção and LAMA Theatre.
