António Chainho gave his last concert of his career yesterday in Lisbon, in a concert at the Praça do Município, a night of tribute to the master of the Portuguese guitar full of emotions.
“See you soon,” Master António Chainho said goodbye to the stages, adding that he would hardly part with his guitar. With nearly 60 years of career, he has enchanted stages all over the world and collaborated with some of the most important artists globally, such as Carlos do Carmo, Gal Costa, Maria Bethânia, José Carreras, Maria Dolores Pradera, Adriana Calcanhoto, and Teresa Salgueiro.
In a heartfelt and emotional farewell, he was joined by Carminho and António Zambujo, as well as guitarist Marta Pereira da Costa, the string quartet Naked Lunch, and the musicians who usually accompany him, Ciro Bertini on bass and accordion and Tiago Oliveira on guitar.
One of the reasons for this farewell was the detection of problems in his right index finger, but the master intends to continue composing and playing for friends and to dedicate himself even more to the school of Portuguese guitar he founded in Santiago do Cacém.
A well-deserved tribute that also included the presence of the President of the Lisbon City Council, Carlos Moedas, who thanked him on behalf of Lisbon for his dedication and artistry. The people of Lisbon attended in large numbers, filling the Praça do Município to see this last concert.
Thank you, Master!
