Through art, young people challenge cities towards sustainability

CEiiA launched in June last year, at the New European Bauhaus Festival (NEB), in Brussels, NEBbyAYR, a transformational movement, led by new generations, to think and design the cities of the future based on sustainability.

With this ambition, young people mobilize cities, communities and people to adopt sustainable behaviours, through the universal and inspirational language of arts and culture, in an experimental project that started in Matosinhos.

On the 17th of June, CEiiA opens its doors to present the Artistic Manifestos for Sustainability prepared by more than two hundred students accompanied by their teachers from six schools in Matosinhos, based on the motto “the future is not claimed, it is built”. if”.

This Open Day, which will be attended by the Mayor of Matosinhos, Luísa Salgueiro, is the result of a partnership between CEiiA and the National Arts Plan, with the support of the City Council, which will include the presentation of artistic works by students and multiple creative activities, such as workshops, cultural performances promoted by schools and inspiring conversations about sustainability. These artistic manifestos are on display in the municipality’s street furniture network until July 15th and challenge citizens to contribute to a more sustainable city.

The artist Miguel Januário (maismenos) will also present the icon of the NEBbyAYR movement, a work of art that interacts with the public, demonstrating that the sustainable options of citizens and communities have an effective value in the decarbonization of the cities where they live.

The Open Day of this “movement” is also the starting point for the creation of the Be.Neutral network of cities through which it is intended to accelerate the transition to carbon neutrality.
