Auchan and Trax test autonomous robot in the supermarket

Auchan Retail Portugal and the technology company Trax, headquartered in Singapore, have established a partnership that aims to implement autonomous online monitoring solutions for stores to improve customer service and increase productivity.

The first project involves testing a robot, a pioneer in Portugal, developed by the German company MetraLabs, in the corridors of the Auchan supermarket in Alfragide.

The TASC, from Technology at the Service of the Client, walks freely and autonomously through the store and collects information three times a day, then converting it into reports with metrics through computer vision and IoT technology (Internet of Things).

The data is communicated in real time to the store teams so that they can react, replacing products and placing missing price tags and adjusting the shelf space.

In a second phase, the two companies will map the entire store, in order to facilitate the collection of products for online orders and even provide an interactive map to customers, indicating the location of each item in the establishment. In 2021, the project is expected to extend to 34 stores in the Auchan chain.

With the introduction of autonomous robots, Auchan aims to improve productivity in stores, optimize the supply chain and free up employees to focus more on improving the customer experience.
