Audiogest junta-se à campanha internacional “Stay True To The Act”
Concerned, Portuguese artists call for respect for the protection of creators’ rights in the face of the unregulated advance of Artificial Intelligence.
Nearly twenty Portuguese artists are lending their voices to the international call for greater protection of creators’ rights in the face of the rapid advance of Artificial Intelligence, in an initiative promoted by Audiogest, which is thus joining the “Stay True To The Act” campaign. The initiative is attracting the support of renowned international figures, and Portugal is one of the countries with the most videos in the international campaign, selected from artists dedicated to this cause, to lend their voice to this initiative. The videos can be watched HERE.
This campaign, launched by the IFPI, of which Audiogest is a member, aims to raise awareness among European policymakers about the urgency of ensuring that AI systems respect intellectual property rules, fostering a future where human creativity and technological innovation can grow side by side.
“I’m Pedro Abrunhosa, I’m an author, composer, performer, I’m Portuguese. The creative act is perhaps the most human of acts. It’s grounded in experience, in touch, in proximity, in intuition, in fear, in all emotions, in all feelings, but above all, it’s a salvation from blackness, from the hells that life often imposes. That’s why the creative act is a salvific act and a deeply subjective, inner act, sometimes born from pain, fear, death, separation, from the doubts that we humans have and that authors like me somehow transmit into any format? That’s why a generative artificial intelligence is not allowed to vampirise these emotions and mimic, to parrot an amalgam of profound human feelings and make them its own, as if it were creating them itself. It’s important to create culture and enforce the act of artificial intelligence, which, moreover, has already been consensually approved,” says the Portuguese artist in his video.
The campaign’s primary goal is to promote copyright protection and innovation, advocating that for artistic creation to continue flourishing, creators must maintain control over how their works are used and receive proper remuneration for this use.
The initiative’s three guiding principles are a call for transparency, advocating that AI systems that use creative works be transparent and respect current copyright rules; consent, as the use of works to train AI must require the explicit consent of their authors, as creativity cannot be extracted without authorization; and a perspective of joint growth, advocating that the European Union must guarantee an ecosystem where technological innovation and the creative market can thrive in balance.
