On January 13th (Saturday), at 9:30 pm, the Municipal Auditorium of the Seixal Cultural Forum will host the play «From Mary to Mary», by Paloma Pedrero, staged by Maria do Céu Guerra, by the company A Barraca (host Theater of the Earth).
Paulo Silva, president of Seixal City Council, states that «this is another theatrical foray of enormous quality and that takes us back to a timeless theme: equality between women and men».
Mary Wollstonecraft (1759-1797), pioneer of feminist thought, the woman who dared to demand equality between women and men at a time when the very idea of equality was unacceptable, is seriously ill. Following the birth, she suffers from acute puerperal fever. In the delirium of fever, Wollstonecraft believes she is giving a lecture. Her only audience is her newborn daughter, who would become the acclaimed writer Mary Shelley, author of one of the classics of world literature: «Frankenstein». Moving, dramatic, poetic, political, and pedagogical, in this play, Wollstonecraft tells her daughter and all the other women and men who listen: “Never allow anyone to make you eat the bitter bread of dependence. Fight, fight to be yourself. And never fear what others might think.”
The ticket cost is 10 euros, with a 50% discount for young people up to 25 years old, retired people, residents, workers from Seixal local authorities, entertainment professionals and Teatro da Terra, on tickets purchased at the Seixal Cultural Forum box office.
