“Aviso”, one of the Portuguese songs included in the album, Underwater Songs, the latest project of pianist and composer Luís Figueiredo and Manuel Rocha
The album, released by Lado B Records, will be available on November 13 and will be presented live on the same day at the Saramago Foundation in Lisbon, and in Coimbra, at Salão Brazil, on November 22.
Underwater Songs is a collection of songs, essentially ballads, written by Luís Figueiredo (Cristina Branco, António Zambujo, among others) between 2022 and 2024. In this work, the composer presents simple and unpretentious compositions but loaded with meaning, sometimes poetic, with lyrics in Portuguese, English, and Spanish. Each track invites us to enter a universe filled with nostalgia and loss, with profoundly visual soundscapes that refer us to other arts such as cinema or photography.

The sound of the album is guided by Luís Figueiredo’s piano with the engaging voice of Manuel Rocha, guitarist and singer-songwriter (Luísa Sobral, MARO) creating a subtle dialogue that provides a contemplative and emotional musical experience. With an aesthetic approach that combines simplicity and depth, Underwater Songs is an extraordinary musical journey that invites the listener to stop, listen, and contemplate the beauty of the songs.
The release of Underwater Songs marks another important step in the careers of the notable musicians Luís Figueiredo and Manuel Rocha, recognized for their work with some of the best musicians of today across jazz, fado, Portuguese popular music, or more classical music.
