Bairrada received 15 International Masters of Wine under the IMW Tour

After attending the ‘ASI Contest of the Best Sommelier of the World’, where the Bairrada Wine Commission (CVB) brought wines and sparkling wines from Bairrada to Antwerp to make them known to sommeliers of the world, it was now the turn of an inverse promotion, with the visit of fifteen Masters of Wine (MW) to the region.

It was last Friday, March 29th, at the IMW Tour to Portugal, an initiative of ViniPortugal in partnership with the Institute of Masters of Wine (IMW) and whose program invited “Discover (go) the regions of Alentejo, Dão and Bairrada.

In Bairrada, the meeting point was at the emblematic Bairrada Wine Museum, an ideal place for the Masters of Wine to deepen knowledge about the region, its terroir, grape varieties and wines. ‘An overview of the Bairrada Region’ gave the moment of sharing, led by journalist and wine critic Luís Lopes.

Pedro Soares, president of CVB; the producers and winemakers Luís Pato and Luís Patrão; and the Master of Wine Dirceu Vianna Junior – the only MW of Portuguese language – followed the ‘work day’, with the purpose of better accompanying and clarifying the present delegation, regarding viticulture, production and business around the wine in the region.

After a ‘theoretical training’, it was time to go to the Bacchic tasting, made up of more than four dozen wines from several producers: Adega de Cantanhede, Aveleda, ‘Baga Friends’, Campolargo, Casa de Saima, Casca Wines, Caves Arcos do Rei, Solar Caves of São Domingos, Caves São João, Idealdrinks, Kompassus, Lusovini, Messias, Quinta dos Abibes, V Pure and Vain Wines.
