The Bairro em Festa festival started on Monday, and will continue until August 23, at Avenida Almirante Reis, in Lisbon, with concerts, shows, cinema, exhibitions and debates
Bairro em Festa is a cultural initiative co-promoted by the Lisbon City Council, EGEAC, the Arroios Parish Council and LARGO Residências, in partnership with the Local Network of Socio-Cultural Partners around the Axis Almirante Reis (Intendente, Pena, Anjos and Arroios).
The name Bairro em Festa (neighbourhoods in celebration) reflects an intention of expanding a local cultural network that makes known the various neighbourhoods – not just the Intendente – that gravitate around a central axis. Thus, the figure of Avenida Almirante Reis appears as the backbone of Organs vital organs of this area of the city: the neighbourhoods of Intendente, Pena, Anjos and Arroios.
The cultural cooperative LARGO Residências continues to coordinate this network of about 20 partners/organizations in the design of a shared program, also with the partnership and support of several local entities of different nature: education, commerce, social and services.
Bairro em Festa 2020 continues to be faithful to a line of programming that crosses generations and trends. They are concerts, shows, creative projects that count on the contribution of the local community, debates, exhibitions and a series of other activities that make up a diversified offer that highlights the characteristics of a multicultural neighbourhood, with day and nightlife.
The Festival’s mission goes through an integrated and integrating coexistence, in an open neighbourhood (or in this case four neighbourhoods that share a similar profile) that welcomes the global without losing sight of its local essence.
Without pretensions and with a free heart, the goal is to reach the neighbour’s door next door and leave it open to anyone who lives in other parts of the city, who is passing through, who hears other songs or speaks other languages, and all those who want to participate in the huge and lively collective conversation that is Bairro em Festa.
The concerts take place at the GNR Headquarters, at Rua Jacinta Marto. On Thursday, August 20, we have the participation of Pedro Salvador and Madalena Victorino with Companhia Limitada: the Concert. On Friday 21 it is Filipe Sambado who passes the testimony to António Zambujo and Jon Luz who take the stage on Saturday, the 22nd, with Do Fado à Morna. The closing on Sunday 23 is in charge of Ayom.
In the field of visual arts, we have exhibitions between Largo do Intendente and the GNR Headquarters (Cabeço de Bola). Resident photographer João Tuna brings us “Do Largo, ou do tirar pelo Natural”, an exhibition with the most striking faces of the Intendente neighbourhood. You can also see the exhibitions by Lígia Fernandes and Micaela Jarast.
As in the past year, Recantos Performativos are spread over several streets and arteries in the neighbourhood, occupying cultural spaces of some festival partners. Among several artists, we have the participation of Auéééu Teatro, Bestiário, Alice Duarte and Marta Jardim, Ana Vilela da Costa, Beniko Tanaka and Claudio Hochman, Diana de Sousa, Keli Freitas, Margarida Barata and Sofia Valadas.
