Teatro Tivoli BBVA

On the 14th and 15th of January, the talented dancers of the Kyiv Ballet will present, in Lisbon, an incredible version of “Swan Lake”, in a year marked by tragedy, especially for the artists who were preparing to take the stage of a theatre, now destroyed by war.

Swan Lake”, staged by the Kyiv Ballet company, arrives in Lisbon for two unique and symbolic performances, on January 14 and 15, 2023, at the Tivoli BBVA Theater. Tickets are already on sale at and at the usual places.

With the artistic direction of one of the most brilliant dancers in the world, Ana Sophia Scheller, this classical dance show brings together the members of the Kyiv Ballet Company, who present the poetry and elegance of the classical movement, as an antithesis to the disharmony of the war context.

Swan Lake” is one of the most famous ballets in the world and tells the story of an impossible love between Prince Sigfrid and Odette, a young woman transformed into a swan by the sorcerer Von Rothbart. This masterpiece highlights a very pertinent theme, the duality between good and evil, represented by the purity of the white swan (Odette) and the duplicity of Odile, the black swan and the sorcerer’s daughter.

Kyiv Ballet dancers are distinguished by the care and delicacy of traditions and for maintaining the essence of classical ballet, thus staging this impossible love story through very technical and virtuous movements. Marius Petipa signs the choreography for this show, which expresses emotions through the music of Piotr Tchaikovsky.

The art of dance has been the refuge of these dancers, who were preparing to take the stage of a theatre, now destroyed by the war. The outstanding dancers of the Kyiv Ballet will debut in Lisbon in January, where they will show through the beauty and delicacy of classical dance what resilience and the spirit of resilience are all about.

Kyiv Ballet was born in 2017 from a dream of the famous solo dancer of the Kyiv Opera Theater Victor Ishchuk. The first performances conquered the most important theatres in the world and, since then, they have already added more than 500 performances in several countries, such as Switzerland, China, Ukraine and Mexico.
