Food Bank Against the Hunger of Porto prepares for the last collection campaign of the year
The second campaign of the year for the Food Bank against hunger will take place on the weekend of 30 November and 1 December.
The 58th edition of this action, one of the most significant initiatives of the year, comes in the context of a high number of requests for support and seeks to strengthen the solidarity of the Porto community with families in vulnerable situations.
In May this year, in the last campaign carried out, the Food Bank of Porto raised a total of 342 tons of food products, thanks to the generosity of the population and the dedicated work of more than 6,600 volunteers, distributed by about 350 super and hypermarkets of the District of Porto. The gifts included non-perishable products such as milk, olive oil, canned food, oil, rice, sugar, and pasta, among others essential for the daily lives of families in need.
The campaign aims to repeat this success, bringing the entire community the opportunity to contribute with donations that, after being collected, will be sent to the facilities of the Food Bank of Porto, in Perafita. From there, the goods will be distributed to more than 300 support institutions, ensuring that they reach those who need it most quickly.
Solidarity in times of challenges
For Bárbara Barros, president of the Food Bank of Porto, the campaign is a crucial moment of unity and solidarity: “More than donations, this campaign is a symbol of solidarity. In times of challenges and uncertainties, the support of our community represents the hope for a better tomorrow for all. Every donation is a sharing of optimism and compassion”.
