Benfica adds new thrashing in first US test
Jota scored a hat-trick in the 9-1 victory over Academica Soccer Club.
Benfica made their right footsteps in the United States by beating the Academica Soccer Club, an amateur team with links to Portugal in San Jose, by 9-1.
Young striker Jota was the clearest player by signing a hat-trick. Raúl de Tomás and Caio Lucas scored twice each with the remaining two goals to be signed by Álex Grimaldo and Pizzi.
This was the second successive defeat of the team of Bruno Lage in the preseason, after, last Saturday, beat Académica in Coimbra by 8-0, collecting the Trophy Hospital of Light.
The next test of the Portuguese champions is scheduled for dawn from Friday to Saturday at Levi’s Stadium, California, ahead of Chivas in what will be the ‘starting shot’ for the International Champions Cup.
