Benfica beats Sporting and wins the League Cup in women’s football

Benfica beat Sporting, 2-1, and won the League Cup in women’s football, in a match held this Wednesday afternoon at the Estádio Dr. Magalhães Pessoa, in Leiria.

The eagles came full throttle in the match and, after 4 minutes, opened the scoring: Francisca Nazareth shot for Inês Pereira’s great defense and, in the recharge, Cloé Lacasse won.

The red party rose in pitch shortly afterwards, when Nycole Raysla, from a penalty, increased to 2-0. However, even in the first half (35 minutes), Beatriz Cameirão was sent off for accumulating yellow cards, and Benfica was reduced to ten elements.

Also a result of numerical superiority, Sporting dominated practically the entire complementary stage, but only managed to reduce, through Bruna Costa, in the 52nd minute. With this triumph, Benfica repeats the feat achieved in 2019/2020 – beat SC Braga, in the final, 3-0 – and takes the second League Cup to the Cosme Damião Museum
