This Wednesday, Benfica guaranteed the passage to the round of 16 of the Champions League, with a victory over Dynamo Kiev by 2-0, in Luz, combined with good news from Munich.
The eagles went full throttle and could have taken the lead in the first minute, but Yaremchuk saw a shot blocked by Bushchan, and Rafa, on reload, wasted, shooting over. The reaction of the Ukrainians didn’t take long, and it just didn’t cause damage because of Tsygankov, who in the face of the goal fired over, an incredible failure after a beautiful move by Buyalskyi.
But it was the reds who scored: first João Mário watched Yaremchuk, who scored the opening goal on his left foot (16′), then Gilberto didn’t waste a toast from Verbic (which isolated the Brazilian right-back when trying to cut), expanding to the 22′.
In the second half, Dynamo threatened the Reds’ advantage, prompting whistles in Luz, but Vlachodimos prevented the Ukrainians to score: great interventions by the Greek prevented goals from Tymchyk (75’) and Buyalskyi (79’).
Benfica thus joins Sporting in the round of 16 of the Champions League.
