Benfica beats Liverpool in the Youth League
Benfica qualified for the fifth time this Tuesday in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Youth League by striking Liverpool 4-1.
In a match that took place at Benfica Futebol Campus, in Seixal, the first goal of the match was scored by Gonçalo Ramos in the 13th minute, making the best of a hasty exit from the Liverpool goalkeeper.
The same Gonçalo Ramos would be highlighted in the second goal. Shirt 9 of the reds was fouled inside the area by Boyes, and in the conversion of the penalty Tiago Dantas increased the score to 2-0 in the 22nd minute, four minutes before the third of the Luz group.
Nuno Tavares, who is part of the main team of the reds, had a direct free-kick which he excelled for a third goal of the match on 26 minutes. The ball would deviate from the barrier, betraying the English goalkeeper.
After a half-hour of dominance of the Portuguese team, Liverpool broke free and relaunched themselves in the match with a goal from Tyler Morton in the 37th minute with a first shot on the edge of the area. Clube da Luz could have increased the advantage a few minutes later, but Tiago Dantas missed a penalty on 45+1′.
In the resumption of the match, the reds were better but Benfica ended up extending the advantage. Gonçalo Ramos, 59 minutes in, shot from a distance and Jaros Vitezslav hit a huge chicken, with the ball hitting the post before entering the Liverpool goal,
Liverpool would end the game with nine players due to the expulsion of Sepp van den Berg for a tug at Tiago Dantas when he was isolated, and then Clarkson, who kicked Rafael Brito.
Benfica goes to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Youth League, which are scheduled for March 17th or 18th, and is waiting for the result of the meeting between Bayern Munich and Dinamo Zagreb Wednesday.
