Benfica defeats Leipzig and secures their presence in the ‘Round of 16’ of the Youth League

Benfica’s Under-19 squad secured their presence in the UEFA Youth League last 16 after beating Leipzig 3-0 in Cottaweg, Germany.

The match began to flow with the Portuguese team after 24 minutes. A well-designed attack from the right flank culminated with the assist of Ronaldo Camará clearing Paulo Bernardo, who, in the face of the German team keeper, made the first of the match.

Four minutes later, the 2-0. Gonçalo Ramos broke free, received the pass from Rafael Rodrigues and fired powerfully into the back of Leipzig’s net. The score was 2-0 at half-time and the Germans knew they had to do more to counter Benfica’s game. However, on 58 minutes, they suffered a setback that complicated (and much) the tasks for this meeting. Amededjisso was sent off for yellow accumulation and left Leipzig to play with 10 units.

On 76 minutes, Paulo Bernardo gave the ‘final ax’ in the match, stamping Benfica’s passage to the UEFA Youth League round of 16.

At this point, with just one match remaining, the incarnated squad are the leaders of Group G with 12 points, followed by Lyon, who with 9 points has already secured the move to the next round. Leipzig, after this defeat, is 3rd in the standings with four points, the same as Zenit, which is in the last position of this group.
