Benfica draws with Famalicão but it’s in the finals

In the world of football, it is often heard that there are goalkeepers who are worth points. And, in fact, there are goalkeepers who are worth a lot of points throughout the championship. But there are also goalkeepers who, in addition to points in the championship, also guarantee a place in the finals of other equally important events. This is the starting point for telling the story of a game that ends with Benfica qualifying for the Portuguese Cup final.

On Tuesday night, the Eagles traveled to Vila Nova de Famalicão to collect a miserable draw (1-1) that earned them the place of first finalist in this edition of the queen event.

After a victory in Luz (3-2), in the 1st leg game, Bruno Lage’s men ended up achieving a result that allows a return to Jamor three years later to dispute a new Portuguese Cup final.

However, anyone looking at this result may fall into the error of thinking that Benfica did not experience difficulties. Now, nothing could be more misleading. Benfica suffered well in Famalicão and the biggest consequences just didn’t appear because in the red goal lives a Greek wall called Odysseas Vlachodimos.
