Benfica is the new National Women’s Basketball Champion

This Sunday, the women’s basketball champion was crowned for the first time in its history, after having beaten União Sportiva, in Ponta Delgada, by 76-73.

With the Sidónio Serpa pavilion registering a new flood for this third and decisive game of the final, the match was always guided by balance. At the interval, the reds won by only one point (41-40). Aliyah Mazyck, from the Azorean team, finished as the best scorer with 26 points, but Japonica James (Benfica) had 22 and was elected MVP.

Benfica became the 10th team to become national champion, in a list led by CAB Madeira, with five titles won, while União Sportiva won the competition three times (2015, 2016 and 2018).
