Benfica has the first 5G stadium in Portugal
NOS announced that it provided the Sport Lisboa e Benfica stadium with 5G coverage, allowing supporters and the entire collaborative structure of the club to take advantage of the most disruptive characteristics of this new technology.
In practice, this means that the more than 65 thousand fans who fill the Estádio da Luz, when this becomes possible after the end of the limitations imposed by the pandemic, will have access to a mobile internet on average 10 times faster, with higher speeds at 1 Gbps.
This innovation will also increase the capacity of the network, making it possible to process a larger volume of data within the stadium. NOS explains that, before the pandemic, with the presence of the public, the average volume of data per game exceeded 1 Terabyte, and it is expected that with the 5G this number will double or triple, depending on people’s adherence to the technology.
There are also plans to transform the experience of those who watch Benfica games through immersive access to content, thanks to the combination of 5G with technologies such as virtual or augmented reality.
