Benfica wins against Rio Ave and ties in 1st position with FC Porto
On the visit to Rio Ave (2-1), the eagles only came to victory close to the final whistle. Bruno Lage’s team ends a cycle of five consecutive draws in the championship and returns to equal the number of points of rival FC Porto.
Benfica started better in the match, but Rio Ave opened the scoring. Following an indirect free kick, Dyego Sousa tried to cut the ball, but ended up involuntarily watching Taremi (27’) for the first goal of the match.
The second part started with changes by Bruno Lage. The coach launched Seferovic to replace Dyego Sousa, who on 64 minutes equaled the match.
At the end of the match, on 87 minutes, following a corner from Pizzi, Weigl jumped higher and scored Benfica’s second goal in Vila do Conde.
