Bienal BoCA starts today in Lisbon, Almada and Faro

The event, which brings the visual arts, performance, performing arts and music into dialogue, runs until October 17th, with ten national premieres and 17 new creations by more than 40 Portuguese and foreign artists.

Today, among other artists scheduled for the program, the singer Capicua will present “A Tralha” at the Museum of Lisbon, Grada Kilomba opens the season of new exhibitions at the Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology, also in Lisbon, with the work “O Barco “, which speaks of the dehumanization and genocide of African and indigenous peoples. Luís Lázaro Matos presents “A Onda”, at Fábrica da Cerveja, in Faro, and Agnieszka Polska presents the work “I am the Mouth”, at Casa da Cerca – Center for Contemporary Art, in Almada.

Director Gus Van Sant will be at the National Theater D. Maria II, in Lisbon, and filmmaker Pedro Costa, with an approach to post-colonialism, and director Romeo Castellucci, with an installation on the violence of a communication, were also invited. imposed, in addition to artists such as Andreia Santana, Mónica Calle, Sara Bichão, Gustavo Sumpta, Musa Paradisíaca, the feminist collective LasTesis and Anne Imhof.

This year, the event takes place in more than 26 presentation spaces, including theaters and museums, in Lisbon, Almada, Faro, but also in natural, outdoor ‘stages’, reflecting the environmental concerns that the program addresses.

American filmmaker Gus Van Sant debuts his first stage creation with the musical theater show “Andy”, inspired by the story of Andy Warhol.

The biennial also has a series of debates and meetings with artists such as Grada Kilomba, Tania Bruguera and Frédérique Ait-Touati with Odete.
