In 2021, the SeixalJazz International Festival celebrates 25 years and returns, between October 14 and 23, to the Municipal Auditorium of the Seixal Cultural Forum, always at 10:00 pm, with a prominent poster, which brings together national and projects on stage. which counts on the return of the American collectives.
The festival kicks off on the 14th with the quartet of North American drummer Billy Hart, returning to Seixal now as leader, after his last stint, in 2018, at the festival. On the second day of SeixalJazz, the Diogo Alexandre Bock Ensemble performs, with the drums once again marking their place in a collective that brings together the most outstanding musicians from the national and international jazz scene.
For the 16th of October, another L.U.ME return is scheduled. (Lisbon Underground Music Ensemble to the festival), a Portuguese project that puts 15 instrumentalists on stage, directed by pianist Marco Barroso.
The program continues on October 20th with João Lencastre’s Communion project, now in a trio version, which will present compositions of the drummer’s most recent works, well received by enthusiasts at home and abroad.
On October 21, the quartet of American saxophonist Dayna Stephens performs. The following day, October 22, the quartet of Chilean Melissa Aldana, acclaimed as one of the best contemporary saxophonists, takes to the stage.
The closing of the 22nd edition of SeixalJazz is in charge of the North American saxophonist Ted Nash, who returns to the festival year in trio, accompanied by the bassist Ben Allison and the guitarist Steve Cardenas.
