Bispo, Malabá, Piruka, Anjos, Soraia Ramos and David Carreira at the Popular Festivities of S. Pedro do Seixal
June 21st to 30th, at Quinta dos Franceses Urban Park
The Popular Festivals of São Pedro, in Seixal, will take place from the 21st to the 30th of June, in the Quinta dos Franceses Urban Park and in other places in the parish. On the 21st, starting at 9 pm, the traditional Marchas Populares das Escolas parade will take place in the streets of the old urban centre of Seixal.
The festivities include, in their program, several musical shows with well-known artists, such as Bispo (who will perform on the 22nd), Malabá (together with the Orchestra of the School of Arts of the Independent Football Club Torrense, on the 23rd), Piruka (on the 27th), the Anjos (on the 28th), Soraia Ramos (on the 29th) and, finally, David Carreira on the 30th of June. On the main stage, well-known names at the municipal level will also appear, Vozes do Atlântico, the Banda da Sociedade Filarmónica União Seixalense and I’m a Rock Star (with the show Cantar Abril) and Talentos sem Fronteiras.
In Largo da Igreja, several shows are also scheduled, promoted by the Union of Parishes of Seixal, Arrentela and Aldeia de Paio Pires, with the Seixal Pole of the Music School of the National Conservatory, the Ethnographic Parade of Folklore Groups, the Festival of Folklore from Rancho Honra e Glória de Arrentela, F3, Dilema, Novos Talentos, Banda da Sociedade Filarmónica Democrática Timbre Seixalense, Coral Alentejano dos Serviços Sociais, Vítor Paulo Trio, Marchas Populares, Baile Popular de São Pedro, Banda Filarmónica da Sociedade Filarmónica União Seixalense and Grupo Coral Os Gralhas.
In addition to these musical shows and marches, the festivities program includes dances, crafts, gastronomy, street entertainment, the traditional Baía do Seixal Nautical Parade and, also, the procession celebrating the patron saint.
Paulo Silva, president of Seixal City Council, states that «the objective is to involve the entire community, including the municipality’s lively forces, giving life to an initiative that, like previous years, promises to attract thousands of visitors who will enjoy and participate in a wide range of initiatives and competitions that highlight the very varied offer that exists in our municipality, at different levels. We are waiting for you, come and discover the best that is done in terms of local culture and the municipality».
It should be noted that the global program of the Popular Festivals of the Municipality of Seixal will take place from June 21st to September 1st. The program offered is full of concerts and, across the various stages, renowned artists and others from the new generation will perform. There will also be popular dances, displays of economic activities and crafts, good cuisine, nautical parades, traditional popular marches and lots of street entertainment.
The Festas de S. Pedro, in Seixal, is followed by the Popular Festivals of Arrentela (from the 10th to the 14th of July), Fernão Ferro (from the 23rd to the 28th of July), Aldeia de Paio Pires (from the 31st of July to the 4th of August), Amora (from August 14th to 18th) and, finally, Corroios (from August 23rd to September 1st), whose posters promise to delight thousands of party-goers.
