Black Coffee is a South African DJ and producer, a true renaissance man, who has become one of the most prominent figures in global electronic music. He began his career in music in the mid-90s as a DJ and producer in South Africa. It was only in 2003, however, that he released his debut album, a self-titled project that showed the world his profound vision of music Casa, Lar.
Over the following years, Black Coffee continued to build his reputation as one of the most innovative and respected DJs, thanks to records such as “Have Another One” (2007), “Home Brewed” (2009), “Africa Rising” (2012) , “Pieces of Me” (2015) and “Subconsciously” (2021). Since his early years, he has stood out for his deep knowledge of music and a natural ability to mix house with soul, with alternative African percussions, organic electronics and even jazz elements, in a truly irresistible musical melting pot.
The result is a unique sound, dubbed by many as “Afropolitan House”. From 2015 onwards, he began to stand out on the international scene, with high-profile appearances at festivals such as Ultra Miami, Tomorrowland and Coachella. The remix for Alicia Keys, the collaboration with superstar Drake and the Grammy won in 2022 for the album “Subconsciously” are some of the facts that contributed to the exponential growth of his notoriety.
A philanthropist like few others and passionate about contemporary art, Black Coffee remains humble and dedicated to his craft, seeking to push the limits of his sound and find new ways to connect with his audience, and promises to win over the Portuguese public with this energy that is renewed each performance. Black Coffee performs on July 19th, on the Super Bock Stage.
Mahalia Burkmar was born in Leicester, in 1998. The first songs came very early. The first of them, “My Angel”, was written when he was just eight years old. When she turned 13, the young singer signed her first contract, with Asylum Records.
Despite this journey, Mahalia was in no rush to record, focusing on knowledge of herself and the world. She collaborated with the electronic band Rudimental and it wasn’t long before she accompanied stars like Ed Sheeran or Kendrick Lamar. The simplicity of her songs serves the softness and delicacy of her voice. With the help of producers of the calibre of Steve Fitzmaurice or Nineteen85, Mahalia didn’t make any false moves in her career.
“Diary of Me”, the first project, offered an irresistible pop atmosphere, but also a desire to explore other languages, closer to hip-hop. Following this tone, the single “Sober” won over thousands of listeners and confirmed Mahalia as one of the most promising talents of the moment. “Love and Compromise”, released in 2019, showed an artist unafraid to experiment, calling on various styles and influences for her music, with a rare maturity.
And the result couldn’t be better. Songs like “Simmer” invited people to dance and won over millions of listeners on YouTube and streaming platforms. Even after reaching impressive numbers and being nominated for several awards (Grammy, BRIT, Soul Train, MTV Push, among others), Mahalia was never dazzled, always trying to look within herself, in search of the best way to grow her life. each release. “IRL”, released in 2023, is another stage in this growth.
The album features guest appearances by names like Stormzy and JoJo and is yet another neo-soul pearl that Mahalia gives to the world, overcoming her traumas with the power of music. This alchemy can be felt by the audience at Super Bock Super Rock, on July 19th, on the Super Bock Stage.
