“Setting Sun” is the first single from BMX Bandits’ upcoming album Dreamers on The Run, their twelfth studio album which began writing in 2014.
It was planned to be the group’s most ambitious album project to date but that project was abandoned in 2015 due to Duglas going through a period of physical and mental health concerns.
The album will bring together material originally written in 2014 with new material created by Duglas and his current main collaborator, multi-instrumentalist Andrew Pattie.
“Setting Sun” is a song about the unifying everyday struggles of everyday life. Musically, it’s classic Bandits uplifting pop. The music video is directed by Duglas Stewart and Andrew Pattie.
The BMX Bandits were formed in 1985 by songwriter and vocalist Duglas T Stewart from the ashes of The Pretty Flowers, a short-lived group that featured Stewart alongside Frances McKee (The Vaselines), Sean Dickson (The Soup Dragons) and Norman Blake (Teenage Fanclub).
His songs mix melodic qualities and humour with, at times, raw and moving suffering. Stewart wrote many of the group’s solo works, including “Your Class”, “The Sailor’s Song” and “Doorways”, but also collaborated with many of the other members. Stewart’s most regular songwriting partners have been Francis Macdonald, Norman Blake and, more recently, David Scott of The Pearlfishers and original Bandits guitarist Jim McCulloch.
