Boa Cama Boa Mesa Guide Awards 2024
The annual Boa Cama Boa Mesa Guide awards ceremony took place today, at the IMPRESA headquarters, distinguishing the best Portuguese hotels and restaurants.
At this year’s event, 33 accommodations and 35 restaurants were awarded awards, in addition to the Chef of the Year, the Career Award and the Revelação 2024 restaurant and accommodation.
The Boa Cama Boa Mesa Guide goes on newsstands with EXPRESSO from the April 12th edition, but you can now pre-book here. The Guide has maintained, since its first annual edition, in 2003, the purpose of evaluating and selecting the best restaurants and accommodations in the national territory. With objectivity and impartiality, the Boa Cama Boa Mesa team’s choices are based on public criteria, always offering the best selection to readers.
It is for them that journalists from the Boa Cama Boa Mesa team travel the country every year in search of hotel and restaurant projects that stand out and deserve praise, continuing with the aim of making this “Guide” the best assistant for those travelling through Portugal.
This year, the 2024 Guide presents 586 restaurants, in the 18 districts and 2 autonomous regions, and 397 accommodations, including hotels, resorts, rural tourism and local accommodation. Among these, there are 30 restaurants and 42 accommodations that have been opened since the last edition. After celebrating two decades of uninterrupted publication of the “Guia Boa Cama Boa Mesa” last year, the 2024 edition presents several new features. Firstly, and visible throughout the “Guide”, the new graphics and colours stand out, as well as the way restaurants and accommodations are highlighted.
The Boa Cama Boa Mesa 2024 Career Award for entrepreneurs Isabel Costa and João Tomás, owners of Casa das Penhas Douradas, Casa de São Lourenço and TrendBurel – Burel Factory. The Jury recognized the “extraordinary entrepreneurship” and the decisive contribution to “the development of the interior of the country, namely the Serra da Estrela region”, through landmark hotel projects combined with the industrial and creative revitalization of wool.
Chef of the Year was Rodrigo Castelo, from the Ó Balcão restaurant, in Santarém. The Guide awards the restaurant a Golden Key for the first time and also receives the Sustainability Award.
Over the last 21 years, there have been several editions of the “Guia Boa Cama Boa Mesa” in which the environmental component was praised, attributing distinctions to Ecotourism in 2012 and 2013 or investigating, with each visit, the ecological commitment, praised and highlighted through a green icon in 2014, 2015 and 2016. In this edition, the Guide once again celebrates accommodations and restaurants that stand out in defending and promoting sustainability in tourism, making appropriate use of environmental resources, respecting the sociocultural authenticity of communities and ensuring that economic activities are viable in the long term. In this context, as they are examples for the entire sector and promoters of these values among tourists, the Sustainability Award is awarded to 10 accommodations and 10 restaurants.
