Bob Dylan collectible set sold for nearly half a million dollars

A set of collectibles by Bob Dylan, including letters, unpublished song lyrics and even the handwritten lyrics from “Blowin ‘in the Wind”, sold for almost half a million dollars, according to the house of auctions.

The articles belonged to the estate of artist Tony Glover, who died last year. They were put up for auction this weekend by the RR Auction Company. The collection included personal letters and transcripts of an interview conducted by Glover and handwritten by Dylan. The whole set was sold for a total of 495 thousand dollars (416 thousand euros).

In one of the typewritten and signed letters, Dylan describes John Lennon and Ringo Starr as “groovy” after meeting them for the first time in 1964. Some unpublished lyrics, handwritten during a car trip, were also sold, in 1962, by Dylan, Glover and John Hammond Jr., when they visited Woody Guthrie at a hospital in Brooklyn.

The piece that reached the highest value, however, was the lyrics of ‘Blowin’ in the Wind ‘, a song from the album’ The Freewheelin ‘Bob Dylan’ (1963), the artist’s second album. Written by hand, dated 2011 and signed (see in the gallery above), it ended up being sold for more than 108 thousand dollars (90 thousand euros).
