Bolshoi cancels international tour for the 2021/22 season

The Bolshoi Theater in Moscow announced the decision to cancel the 2021/2022 international tour because of the pandemic, but said it would keep international productions with foreign artists.

The decision has two motivations: the uncertainty regarding the spread of SARS-CoV-2, since there are countries where the spread has slowed, but others have the number of daily infections and deaths growing, and because there are countries that do not accept the vaccine developed by Russia, Sputnik V.

In November, during the peak of the second wave of the pandemic, 150 employees of the Bolshoi Theater contracted the covid-19.

However, despite the cancellation of the international tour, the theater will continue with the various productions with foreign participation, such as, for example, Handel’s Ariodante, by the American David Alden and the Italian Gianluca Capuano.
