Book by Dulce Maria Cardoso candidate for the Femina literary prize
Dulce Maria Cardoso’s novel ‘Eliete – la vie normale’ was edited in France by Editions Chandeigne, with translation by Elodie Dupeau.
On Monday night, in addition to foreign novels, the first 18 French novels on this year’s list of candidates for the Femina Prize were also released.
The next lists of candidates will be announced in October and the winners will be announced on November 3rd.
The Femina Prize was created in 1904 by 22 employees of the women’s magazine La Vie Heureuse and always had a jury composed exclusively of women, in protest against the jury of the Goncourt Prize, formed only by men.
‘Eliete – la vie normale’ focuses on a middle-aged woman, characterized by average in everything, married and mother of two daughters, real estate agent, who feels dissatisfied with life and marriage, and who, in search of change turns to conquests through the internet and social networks, which in the novel play a central role.
In the novel, Eliete begins rehearsing her cheating on her husband through the social network Tinder, an idea through which the author explores the dilemma of betrayal and real and virtual adultery.
The novel begins with a reference to Salazar and ends with a letter from the dictator, which leaves the development of the plot open in the next volume.
