Bossarenova is a transatlantic trio. It brings together Paula Morelenbaum, the great voice of bossa nova from Brazil, and two exceptional German musicians: the renowned pianist Ralf Schmid and Joo Kraus, one of the best trumpet players in Europe today.
Atlântico is their latest work and a new milestone in this virtuous alliance, an exponential pioneer of music and emotional memories. Paula Morelenbaum, Joo Kraus, and Ralf Schmid project a reunion with the past that does not conform to the chronological timeline of time. It is a timeless symphony that translates all the beauty and charm of Brazilian music and its composers.
They remember João Donato, pay tribute to Edu Lobo, the famous partnership between Ivan Lins and Vítor Martins, bring to the forefront the poetry of Egberto Gismonti, celebrate Caetano Veloso, and honour Tom Jobim, the sovereign maestro who invited Paula Morelenbaum to join the Banda Nova and with whom she worked for ten years. Atlântico is proof of the powerful versatility of these artists in imbuing a unique expression in the reinterpretation of renowned works. Impeccable in executing a hybrid model of musical production, which lies between the skilful use of synthetic sounds and creativity in applying these mechanisms in an intersectional manner that never negates human expression. The trio dives confidently and thoroughly into this ocean of sound.
The return of Paula Morelenbaum, Ralf Schmid, and Joo Kraus to Portugal is scheduled for November. The trio’s first performance is set for the new Ponto C auditorium in Penafiel, followed by the Casa da Criatividade in São João da Madeira where they will open the “November in Jazz” Festival, concluding the tour in Lisbon, at the Small Auditorium of CCB.
