Braga independent film festival evokes Sean Connery

The festival kicks off on Thursday at 5 pm with the classic policeman ‘The Untouchables’, with the late British actor Sean Connery, who will still be remembered at 12 pm in’ Dr. No ‘, the first film in the 007 series – James Bond.

Before that, at 19:00, the official opening includes the presentation of three books: ‘Federico Fellini – Inevitabilidade da Arte’, by Anabela Branco de Oliveira, professor at the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro, about the filmmaker of who this year marked one hundred years of birth; ‘Viagens pelo Éter – Um Cinema Pós 2008‘, by António Costa Valente, director of the Festival de Avanca; and ‘NATO – International Cooperation and the Fight against Terrorism’, by Artur Barros Moreira, director of Bragacine.

This is followed by the exhibition of ‘shorts’ by Luís Miranda and Carlos Coelho Costa, from the war film ‘Jouney’s End‘, by Saul Dibb, and, in absolute debut, ‘A Picture of Pollock with Blood‘, by Rui António.

On Friday, at 15:00, short films will be shown in a contest by the Filmógrafo / Avanca and Soares dos Reis schools, including the debut of ‘Boca do Inferno’, by Laura Seixas, and ‘Capacete‘, by Gustavo dos Santos , as well as the new fiction by Passos Zamith, ‘Chaço 92′.

At 16:30, it will be the turn of the Austro-German drama ‘Toni Erdmann’, by Maren Ade.

The official closing time is at 7 pm, with the Augusta Awards for the best works by Bragacine and homage to actresses Sofia Froes, Maria João Monteiro and Lúcia Moniz, to director Carlos Coelho Costa, screenwriter Valter Hugo Mãe and cinematographer Francisco Vidinha.

There is also a praise for the hug in Rui Nunes ‘Confinamento Descontente‘, the biography of the slave heroine ‘Harriet‘, by Kasi Lemmons, and the award-winning animation ‘My Life by Courgette’, by Claude Barras.

At 10:30 pm, there are moments of suspense, with ‘Deathcember‘ and ‘Daddy’s Girl’, both by the British Julian Richards, followed by 24:00 the screening of the best film and ‘short’ of the festival.
