Matheus Nunes was the “as” who left the bench and gave Sporting’s three precious points
A giant step for Sporting at Estádio da Pedreira, by beating Braga 1-0 and thus keeping the distance to Porto, in a very difficult game, reduced to 10 just after 18 minutes by the expulsion of Gonçalo Inácio.
If Sporting had to win if they wanted to keep the 4 points away from Porto and if they had more possession of the ball, Braga had the best opportunities until expulsion.
Gonçalo Inácio, under pressure, would end up missing Gaitán first, and then Galeno and Artur Soares Dias did not hesitate to show him two yellow cards and one red in eight minutes.
The game changed, Sporting de Braga dominated and caused many problems for the Lions that Sebastián Coates and Antonio Adán were solving as they could.
Rúben Amorim placed Nuno Mendes in the centre of the defence and made Nuno Santos retreat on the left side, the attack was on account of Pedro Gonçalves and Paulinho, who tried everything to reach the goal of Braga.
The second half was more of the same, Braga attacking and Sporting defending as they could in their midfield, with Adán initialling many good defences and holding the tie.
Braga attacked but didn’t score and at Sporting’s only chance, Matheus Nunes scored 10 minutes from the end.
Sporting now has 73 points, seven more than FC Porto, who play tomorrow with Moreirense, Sporting de Braga, is fourth, with 58 points.
