The village of Videmonte, in the municipality of Guarda, will host a festival dedicated to bread at the weekend, which gives visitors the chance to participate in the confection of this gastronomic product, it was announced.
According to the organization, the festival “Pão Nosso – Festa da Natureza” includes street animation, an oven route, music, theater, an ethnographic show, crafts, a bread fair, routes, workshops and gastronomy.
The event that highlights the bread is integrated in the cycle of festivals of popular culture of the municipality of Guarda.
The annual festival is organized in a partnership that includes the Town Council of Videmonte, Guarda Municipal Council and the Association for the Integrated Development of the Mountain Village Network (ADIRAM), with the support of Turismo Centro de Portugal and the Aspiring Geopark Star.
The highlight of the program is the kiln route to be held on Saturday between 09:00 and 12:00, with a visit to six kilns in the locality of Videmonte, including the community, where the visitor “is invited to attend and to participate in the confection of bread, “according to the promoters.
The event begins on Friday, at 7:00 p.m., with the performance of the Cavaquinhos Group of the Cultural Center of Mileu (Guarda), followed by the Cantares de Videmonte group and the Batuufole Group.
For Saturday, among other initiatives, is scheduled a Ethnographic Exhibition of Harvest (16:30), theater by the group of Manigoto (Pinhel), which presents the spectacle “The crazy and the death” (21:30), and the performance of the musical group Roncos do Diabo (22:30).
On Sunday, there will be a bread fair and a craft fair, with an opening at 10:30 a.m., and the day will be animated with music from the “El Cantarinhas do Telhado” (Fundão) Folkloric Ranch Band, with Quinteto Reis, with the Beira Brass Band group and the Folkloric Ranch of Videmonte.
The Guarda Municipal Council states that during the three days of the festival “Our Bread – Nature Festival” there will be various activities of permanent animation and traditional games (by the Traditional Games Association of Guarda).
The cycle of festivals of popular culture in the county of Guarda aims to be an engine for spreading and promoting the material and immaterial cultural heritage, effective and affective, of the communities involved.
The initiative also aims to help perpetuate the knowledge of the younger generations and “value individual products and traditions and their authenticity.”
Increasing the potential for boosting the local economic and productive base and “attracting visitors from the region and the country, thus boosting the region and the local economy” are other purposes.
