“Breakfast in America” by Supertramp celebrates 40 years on the 130th anniversary of the Lisbon Coliseum
Roger Hodgson’s Supertramp world tour to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the album “Breakfast in America” will pass the Lisbon Coliseum in its 130th anniversary year, which will be celebrated next 2020.
It will be on September 19th that Roger Hodgson, co-founder and legendary singer of Supertramp, with his four-member band, will take the stage of the Coliseu dos Recreios to toast the Portuguese audience with the timeless classics he composed and sang, such as “Give Little Bit ”,“ The Logical Song ”,“ Dreamer ”,“ Take the Long Way Home ”,“ Breakfast in America ”,“ School ”,“ Fool’s Overture ”,“ It’s Raining Again ”which contributed to the Supertramp sold over 60 million albums.
In fact, while many may not associate Roger Hodgson’s name with the Supertramp, they barely hear his voice, one of the most peculiar in rock history, immediately recognize it. The hits he wrote and sang, often referred to as Supertramp songs, are really his own.
“I spent days and days trying to create the right sequence of songs so that the themes flow harmoniously from one to the other.” – Roger Hodgson confided referring to the long-term “Breakfast in America”. “I had such a strong passion for this album and I knew that dedicating that extra time was necessary to make it successful.”
The album “Breakfast in America” was a gold album 11 days after its release, and was the best selling album worldwide this year.
“I’ve been constantly receiving mail from fans who have grown up listening to my songs for years and talk about how, as they get older, they enjoy them on another level,” said Roger Hodgson. “It’s very important for me to know that the fans, who have been with me for decades, are touched by the deeper meaning of my lyrics and songs. It is very touching for me as a composer to receive this feedback. ”
On 14 August next year, the Coliseu dos Recreios completes 130 years of existence.
