BTL 2020 Introduces What’s New in Hosted Buyers Program

The 32nd edition of the Lisbon Tourism Exchange returns in March next year with several new features, namely the Hosted Buyers Program.

This year, international buyers are submitting their applications since late September and subscribers are showing higher demand than last year.

Of the applications received so far, BTL notes that there is a high demand for hosted buyers interested in the destination Portugal from the following sources: USA, India, Russia, France and Brazil. The segments of greatest interest are Wine Tourism, City Break and Meeting Industry, while the regions remain interested in Porto and North, Center, Lisbon and Algarve, as in 2019.

The continued focus on this program by the Lisbon Tourism Exchange reveals for the next edition a very high number of applications, with about 121 new Hosted Buyers.

Dália Palma, BTL Manager, says: “Over the past few years, the hosted buyers program has been a real opportunity for domestic companies to contact international buyers, specializing in certain segments. This year BTL is focused on growing this program, reinforcing growth markets.

We want to continue betting on the sector and its international affirmation and be able to enjoy all the attention that fate Portugal has generated in recent years. Also noteworthy are the consecutive distinctions with which the World Travel Awards have distinguished our country, reinforcing the image and capacity of national tourism.

The objective of the program is to support the coming of international buyers, making it possible to participate in meetings and activities in the domestic market. BTL’s manager adds: “Of the various segments to be enhanced with buyers in this coming edition, we highlight once again the Wine Tourism, Leisure, Golf, Religious, Cultural and Meeting Industry.

I also highlight BTL’s efforts to maintain markets such as the US, China, Japan, Canada and explore new emerging markets like Israel and others from Asia.

One of the new features of this program is the changes introduced to the HB meeting model for 2020. The speed networking – meeting participation model will have a new format, concentrating them in a single space, where HB is identified and receives the supplier, with timed meetings during the first two days of the event.

Applications received will be reviewed by BTL, TAP and Turismo de Portugal and only those accepted will be invited to join the hosted buyers program. Travel agents, tour operators, DMC’s directors and other tourism professionals can subscribe to the event website.

The hosted buyers program has the usual strategic partners, specifically TAP, Turismo de Portugal, APAVT, Iberia Airlines, Barraqueiro, Gold Limousine and the various Lisbon hotel units. BTL 2019 will be held from 11 to 15 March at FIL, Parque das Nações.
