The pieces ‘By heart’ and ‘Sopro’, conceived and staged by Tiago Rodrigues, artistic director of the D. Maria II National Theater, start today a new international tour, with shows in Australia and France, respectively.
‘By heart’ will be on stage today from Sunday to Sunday at the Odeon Theater, part of the Adelaide Festival in Australia.
From 13 to 16 will continue to be performing in Australia, this time in the Q Loft room in Auckland, integrated into the city’s theater festival.
Italy, Switzerland, Canada, Spain, France, and Greece are other countries where Tiago Rodrigues’ piece – which also plays – with fragments and quotes by William Shakespeare, Ray Bradbury, George Steiner, and Joseph Brodsky, among others, will also be represented.
Udine (Italy), on 03 and 04 May, Lausane (Switzerland), from 14 to 18 May, Toronto (Canada) from May 29 to June 2, Barcelona (Spain), on 14 and 15 July, integrated in the Festival El Grec, Bastia (France), 26 and 27 of September, and Thessaloniki (Greece), on 17 and 18 October, are the remaining European cities where the piece will be on tour.
In this show, Tiago Rodrigues teaches a poem to ten people who end up learning it in color in front of the public, and, while teaching them, is recounting memories about his quasi-blind grandmother mixed with writers and characters from books that, one way or another, are linked to you and your grandmother.
‘By heart’ is a play about the ‘importance of memory’ and ‘that invisible contraband of words and ideas that only a text in memory can offer’, as defined by Tiago Rodrigues, at the time of the debut in November 2013, in the Municipal Theater Maria Matos, Lisbon.
The scenery, costumes, and costumes are Magda Bizarro.
For its part, ‘Sopro’, which premiered at the Avignon Festival in July 2017, is on stage until Friday at the National Drama Center of Besançon (France), on 11 and 12 March, will be on stage in the Benno Besson Theater in Yverdon-les-Bains (Switzerland), and on the 16th, at the MA Scène National in Montbéliard (France).
From May 15 to 17, this piece designed by the artistic director of D. Maria II will be staged in Lausane (Switzerland), and, on May 24 and 25, at Le Trident, in Cherbourg-en-Contentin (France).
From May 30 to June 2 he takes the stage at the Teatros del Canal in Madrid and on June 7 and 8 he is part of the Wiener Festwochen in Vienna, Austria.
‘Sopro’ is a play about theater, from the history and memories of Cristina Vidal like the one about the first time she saw a play, when she was five, inside the box of the point, under the stage. At 21 she would become herself a point, at the D. Maria II National Theater, where she still works.
Winner of the Golden Globe Award for Best Part / Show in 2018, ‘Sopro’ is a show with text and staging by Tiago Rodrigues, who will be represented in these tours by Beatriz Brás, Cristina Vidal, Isabel Abreu, João Pedro Vaz, Sofia Dias, and Vítor Roriz.
