Consoada Solidarity Baskets warmed up Christmas in São Brás
In this Christmas marked by the pandemic and the crisis, in a context of social distance, the Solidarity Basket of Consoada reached three hundred and a half homes in São Paulo, bringing food to the table and hope for hearts to those most in need.
Providing everyone with a dignified, fraternal and happy Christmas, where the table does not lack bread or peace in their hearts, is the objective that inspires the distribution of the Conazada Solidarity Basket to hundreds of families in the community every year, within the scope of social intervention work that is carried out throughout the year with households with social and economic vulnerabilities.
The Solidarity Basket of Consoada is an initiative promoted, in partnership, by the Municipality of São Brás de Alportel and by the Parish Council of São Brás de Alportel, coordinating entities of the Local Food Aid Platform, which has its headquarters at the Social Store of São Brás de Alportel, with the collaboration of all platform partners – local nucleus of Cáritas, Salvation Army, CCD – Center for Culture and Sport of Municipality and Parish Council Workers, Santa Casa da Misericórdia de São Brás de Alportel and CASA’s local nucleus. In this year of increased difficulties due to the pandemic, the platform reinforced its dynamics to reach more families, taking more essential goods; to help more children and enlighten this festive season with hope.
This solidarity initiative is part of a series of actions that, year after year, constitute the “Natal Solidário” Program. In addition to essential food and goods, families also receive gifts for the little ones. One way to help the “Christmas Parents” who need it most is to be able to make children as happy as they deserve to be.
Discreetly, the parents were given gifts, appropriate to the ages and preferences of their children, so that their “little shoes” could have the deserved surprise on Christmas night or morning.
This solidarity action is made possible by the hosting of the “Anjinhos de Natal” project, made possible thanks to the committed collaboration of the local Salvation Army nucleus, which relies on the generosity of a group of Algarvian charitable groups. In this year’s edition the Pinheiros Altos Golf Group was the group that sponsored this initiative, having purchased 184 gifts for children and young people from São Paulo!
In this atypical year, the pandemic made it impossible to hold the traditional Reis Solidarity Dinner, organized annually by the City Council and the Parish Council, for a decade now, with the support of many entities and companies in the municipality, through the donation of all food and with the participation of several volunteers.
In view of this limitation, the municipalities maintained the spirit of the initiative and understood to thank the generosity of the local companies that have collaborated over all these years, through the direct acquisition of a greater number of local establishments, the foods that made up, in this edition, the Consoada Solidarity Basket, which in this way was in solidarity twice: helping the families that need it most and the local commerce, also contributing to continue the municipal strategy to support the local economy.
