In April, the projects chosen for MIC 2024 will have the opportunity to present their work at the Penedo da Saudade Cultural Center, accompanied by conversations about the challenges of musical creation in Portugal, moderated by Catarina Silva, from Blue House. The cycle has four showcases: Smoked Flamon (2 April); Mariana Mavis (April 9); It Was Never Saturday Again (April 16) and Bárbara Pina (April 23).

Café Curto ends 2024 with a year of achievements and historic milestones

The year 2024 was one of consolidation for Café Curto, as one of the most dynamic projects in the promotion of emerging music in Coimbra. With 178 Short Café sessions and 23 Café Duplo sessions held by the end of the year, the program demonstrated its ability to attract diverse artists and audiences.

In 2024, Café Curto reached the historic milestone of its 150th session, celebrating the project’s growth and consistency. 2024 also brought the strengthening of the partnership with the Artistic School of the Coimbra Conservatory of Music (EACMC), through the integration of the Jazz Combo into the program, and with the Santos da Casa Festival, reinforcing the connection to the promotion of new talents. Furthermore, for the first time, Café Curto was part of the Popular Days of the Ethnography and Folklore Group of the Academy of Coimbra (GEFAC), with two sessions included in the program of this event.

Café Duplo recorded ten sessions in 2024, continuing to promote the meeting of musicians from different origins and languages, with performances that strengthened the network of musical circulation between Coimbra and other territories.

During the summer, Café Curto expanded its activities outside the home, occupying Praça do Comércio. There were nine bands and nine DJs livening up the summer nights in Coimbra, in a format that gave a stage to artists and projects, bringing music closer to the community.

MIC – Música Independente de Coimbra – has once again become an essential platform for revealing new talent.
