Celebrating 15 years of career, they are the first and greatest representatives of Soul and Funk “made in Portugal”.
Cais Sodré Funk Connection never stops innovating, challenging themselves, and surprises again with a new single full of groove sung in Portuguese. After the success of “Mau Perder” – the first song from their next album, which conquered the playlists of radio stations and digital platforms- the band is preparing to present the new song “Tem de Ser”, which will be released on May 6th.
According to João Cabrita, saxophonist and one of the founding members of the group, “In the past, we have already addressed several topics of a more social or political nature, but this was the first time that the subject came to the forefront. This manifesto for equal rights for all already existed in the English version, written during times of confinement, and NBC managed to brilliantly adapt it to Portuguese.“
For NBC, who became the “master of ceremonies” for Cais Sodré Funk Connection in 2021, “Tem De Ser has a special meaning. I wrote these lyrics with Cabrita, who is also the producer of the song, and, more than words, it is almost a confession. It talks about equality, about the world that I believe should be for everyone, without distinction. The rain is for everyone. The sun is for everyone. Believing in this should be simple, but it is not. And that is why I wanted to put this into music – because, sometimes, music reaches where words cannot.
When writing this song, I felt I needed to say that I still believe. That even when the sky is grey, hope is still a choice. Tem De Ser is this: a song that talks about what unites us, that defends love, justice, and the dignity of those who have not yet had the right to feel the warmth of the sun equally. And if the music serves to awaken even a thought, a conversation, it will have been worth it.”
The music video for the new single was directed by Francisco Quera Gomes.
In the FUNK CONNECTION locomotive, “Soul Power” is assured by Francisco Rebelo on bass, João Gomes on keys, David Pessoa on guitar, Rui Alves on drums and the powerful wind section led by João Cabrita, accompanied by the seductive voice of TAMIN (Telma Santos) and conducted by the unmistakable master of ceremonies NBC.
The new album will be released after the summer and will begin another chapter in the career of these ambassadors of national Funk & Soul, with new songs sung in Portuguese.
