Cais Sodré Funk Connection are back with new songs, full of groove and new moves.
“Mau Perder” is the first advance song from the next album – due out in the second half of 2024 – which will begin a new chapter of the FUNK CONNECTION locomotive, with new songs sung in Portuguese.
True ambassadors of Funk & Soul, “Soul Power” is provided by Francisco Rebelo on Bass, João Gomes on Keys, David Pessoa on Guitar, Rui Alves on Drums and the powerful horn section of João Cabrita, José Raminhos and Miguel Marques, accompanied by the seductive voice of Tamin (Telma Santos) and led by the unmistakable master of ceremonies NBC.
According to Cabrita, the band’s saxophonist and lyricist, “Mau Perder” was composed at the end of 2022, originally in English, and “addressed the end of relationships, where tiredness makes us lower our arms and give up, but at the same time, already with a kind of excitement about what might come next.
Meanwhile, the band was faced with the challenge of writing in Portuguese. There had been attempts in the past, but I never thought that, as a lyricist, I got it right. With NBC joining the band, the process became much easier and he was the one who adapted the lyrics, as he already has a history of singing in our mother tongue.”
NBC became “master of ceremonies” of Cais Sodré Funk Connection in 2021 and, regarding the challenge, he states: “I like writing songs and especially in our language. The possibility I have of writing in Portuguese, along with the other elements of the band, for me is a blessing because this way we can explore other paths without ever distorting what Cais Sodré are as a band.”

The music video is directed by Vitorino Coragem: “The house where we recorded it was the ideal setting to materialize the imagery of the theme and the filming went through the different messy rooms, with the aim of telling the story of a separation, through the festive spirit that characterizes Cais Sodré Funk Connection“, says the director.
