Caldas da Rainha debuts iNTERVALS Cinema Exhibition and Meeting
Tribute to the work and filmmaker Manuel Mozos
From April 10th to 12th, the city will become a place to stop and be contaminated with films, directors, classics, guided tours, debates and reflections on contemporary Portuguese cinema.
The objective of iNTERVALOS is clear – to create a community sensitive to different cinematographies and to honour, every year, a filmmaker. In this first edition, it will be Manuel Mozos.
The first edition of iNTERVALOS will be a meeting place for Portuguese cinema, but also a space for debate and discussion based on the works shown. Each exhibition will thus be an extension of the cinematographic experience, through open debate with the participation of participants, directors and the local community. The event aims to establish itself annually as a cultural landmark in Caldas da Rainha and the western region and to promote the heritage of Portuguese cinema, creation and thought around moving images.
Inspired by the idea of encounters and intervals that arise between films, spectators and directors, the event proposes a dynamic space for sharing, reflection and cinematic discovery.
Over three days, you will have conversations between filmmakers, critics, researchers, teachers, students, and spectators. Each joint film session will correspond to a moment of conversation and discussion.
This is an initiative of the CCC of Caldas da Rainha guided by a principle of collective programming in partnership with ESAD.CR, the Cultural Association OSSO and the Cineclube CR, with the support of the Municipality and the ICA – Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual. The aim, the organization emphasizes, is to “open a space for sharing and discussing contemporary Portuguese cinema, to encourage encounters between different generations and the intersection of different contexts, artistic, educational, academic and scientific”. There is an ambition to contribute to “a more regular experience with cinema, and to highlight and promote creation, reflection, knowledge and socialization”.
It is worth noting that the associative movement has not been forgotten and in each edition of iNTERVALOS an association from the sector will be invited to present and publicize concrete actions and contributions in the cinematographic context. The Portuguese Association of Filmmakers (APR) will present a publication on the history of the APR and through it a look at Portuguese cinema or how films are made in Portugal.
