Calema makes history once again, for the first time, Portuguese-speaking artists take to the stage of Portugal’s largest stadium and fill it with endless hits, joy, guests and fans on a fantastic night.

The concert will go down in history, not only because they were the first to fill Estádio da Luz, but also because, in the company of 60 thousand fans, they put on one of the biggest music parties in Portugal, a vibrant and emotional show that amazed everyone who was there.

The show started with a lot of emotion and a few tears. Performing for an audience of 60,000 people must be very emotional. The brothers continued on in the show with many “thank yous” to everyone for their presence and support, “thank yous” that were repeated throughout the show.

The story of these two brothers from São Tomé and Príncipe seems like something out of a movie. They had a dream of singing, maybe even filling stadiums like this one, singing with great artists and being recognised for their music. At just 30 years old and with 15 years of career, they managed to reach a level that few can achieve.

“Te amo” opened the show a few minutes after the scheduled time, starting the Calema party, with a stage with 3 catwalks, an elevator in the middle of the stage where the brothers entered, to the delight of their fans.

That night had many guests, from Brazil, Dilsinho came to sing with António and Fradique “Leva Tudo”, Calema’s most recent single; with the wonderful Sara Correia, one of the biggest names in contemporary fado, they sang “Respirar”.

But they also had the most “romantic” singer, Anselmo Ralph; TAYC, an Afro-pop star; the always incomparable Mariza in “Maria Joana”; João Pedro Pais joined Calema in “Eu e Tu”; Dino D’Santiago brought the sound of Cape Verde to the Luz stage, accompanied by 16 batucadeiras in “Distinu”.

Bill Lima, an up-and-coming artist, came from São Tomé. Soraia Ramos, who was not present, joined via video call to open “O Nosso Amor”, a song she shares with Calema. In addition to the talented musicians who accompanied them in the grand concert at Estádio da Luz, dancers and a gospel choir, this evening was a moment of celebration of the Lusophony world, the Portuguese language, but also of an entire community of immigrants who are rarely valued and who came to Portugal with the dream of a better life. You could see the pride in their eyes in these two brothers.

Towards the end, Calema left a message: “It is a dream that became a reality shared with 60 thousand people and proof of the strength and impact of Lusophony on culture. Together we are stronger, and we can only thank all the people who shared this moment with us, on and off the stage. It is thanks to your belief that we are here today”.

It is worth remembering that this historic show, by António and Fradique Mendes, featured an impressive 60-meter stage with 3 catwalks, 400 m2 of screens, pyrotechnics and special effects in a show that lasted more than 2 and a half hours and had an international and national team. The artistic direction was Hakim Ghorab, the lighting design was done by Romain Pissemenn, the choreography was directed by the duo Gab Robert and Dez Soliden, and Romain Antonini was responsible for styling.
