Calíope returns to the stage to celebrate International Women’s Day

On March 8, 2024, at the Carlos do Carmo Auditorium, in Lagoa, International Women’s Day will be celebrated with a concert by the group CALÍOPE, which will be performed on stage by singers Marta Hugon, Elisa Rodrigues and Joana Alegre.

CALÍOPE is an Artistic Creation and Gender Equality Awareness Project whose central objective is to give visibility to female composers who perform their creations, thus personifying the ability to create and lead their artistic careers.

After the acclaimed album of the same name released in 2023, which brought together the creations and performances of nine Portuguese-speaking artists, including Aline Frazão, Ana Bacalhau, Joana Espadinha, Joana Machado, Luísa Sobral, and Marta Hugon, Elisa Rodrigues and Joana Alegre, with artistic direction by Marta Hugon and musical direction by Luís Figueiredo, CALÍOPE is back for a unique concert that is more than an artistic celebration; is an invitation to reflect on the importance of female representation in music and society. CALÍOPE wants to be an inspiring force in promoting gender equality, using music as a means of expression and empowerment.

Before the CALÍOPE concert, scheduled for 7:00 pm, the program for the International Women’s Day Celebrations, in Lagoa, includes a Round Table, at 3:00 pm, with classes from schools in the municipality in which Marta Hugon, Elisa Rodrigues and Joana Alegre, the singers featured in this show not to be missed.

CALÍOPE is an Artistic Creation and Awareness Raising Project on Gender Equality. Its main objective is to transform the public’s perception of the role of women in the music industry, giving visibility to a group of composers who give voice to their creations and embody the possibility of creating and commanding their artistic careers.

CALÍOPE presents a sumptuous musical layer that serves the voices of three of the creative muses who, in this show, elevate the works of the other singer-songwriters who narrate the album: Marta Hugon, Elisa Rodrigues and Joana Alegre.
