Municipality of Sintra, Army and Sintra Parks ready for surveillance and fire prevention in Serra de Sintra
The signing ceremony of the collaboration protocol between the Municipality of Sintra, the Portuguese Army and Parques de Sintra – Monte da Lua to reinforce surveillance and fire prevention in Serra de Sintra, took place in the Paços do Concelho building.
The Portuguese Army, through the Regiment of Commands and the Regiment of Anti-Aircraft Artillery Nº.1, will provide equipment and human resources for the active surveillance of the Serra, while Parques de Sintra and the Câmara de Sintra make available to the Army the technical means and material resources that allow the efficiency of these operations, namely: means of communication, fuel, accommodation, and food.
For Basílio Horta, mayor of Sintra, “this partnership is fundamental to guarantee the surveillance of the Serra de Sintra, a natural and cultural heritage of incalculable value. Furthermore, this initiative reinforces the importance of collaboration between the armed forces, the local power, and public entities in the preservation of the environment and the common good and in the prevention of fires.”
The operations to be carried out by the Regiment of Commands and Regiment of Anti-Aircraft Artillery Nº1 together with the municipality and Parques de Sintra began on 8 May and lasted until the end of October.
