São Brás de Alportel City Council advances with SOS Ukraine Humanitarian Aid Plan

This Monday, February 28th, at a meeting of the City Council, the Vice-President, Marlene Guerreiro, who has responsibility in the social area, was the spokesperson for the full-time municipal executive, to make known the Aid Plan Humanitarian that is already advancing on the ground, to support the Ukrainian people and which has received the unanimous agreement of all the elements of the executive.

Sharing the same concern, on the occasion, the councillors in the non-permanence regime, elected by the PSD in the City Council, also presented a proposal with some actions that were already integrated into the Plan.

The City Council expressed from the 1st hour, with the Embassy of Ukraine in Portugal, all the support that was within the reach of the Municipality to support this very significant community in São Brás de Alportel.

Through the Social Services, which promptly went to the field, in order to ascertain the needs of the population, the City Council set up an SOS BRANCH UKRAINE, which is operating at the Community Support Center, where the Local Center for Support for the Integration of Migrants (CLAIM), to accommodate requests for support, namely from the Ukrainian community in housing family and friends, as well as from refugees. Also, this Monday, the POINT FOR COLLECTION OF GOODS TO HELP SEND TO UKRAINE opened at the Municipal Pavilion, through DOINA – Association of Romanians and Moldavians of the Algarve and the Association of Ukrainians of the Algarve. This collection has the support of the “São Brás Solidário” Volunteer Network of the Parish Council, the entire Local Social Network and the Ukrainian community.

Coordinated by the municipality, the local social network integrates the most diverse local entities and is working in an articulated way, to know as soon as possible the needs of the Ukrainian people and the resident Ukrainian community.

The Psychosocial Network made up of technicians from multiple services is mobilized to support children and young people from the Ukrainian and Russian communities.

The Municipality is developing efforts, together with local social partners, in the search for spaces and responses that can be activated in the reception of refugees from Ukraine and has already made available the municipal transport fleet for the collection and delivery of goods, as well as for other services. humanitarian actions.

Meetings of the Social Group, the Local Food Aid Platform and other structures are scheduled for the next few days, in an attempt to unite efforts and synergies in this Solidarity Mission that is uniting the São Brasense community, once again exemplary in its response.
