The World Championship of Improvisation began yesterday at the Coliseu, with four teams competing for the title, Portugal, Brazil, Mexico, and Italy, and fun is guaranteed, you can see it today in the final.
Brazil was the winner last year with improvisers Rafael Pimenta, from Porta dos Fundos, and Daniel Nascimento, from the Barbixas collective, this year they were, and very well, replaced by Cesar Gouvea and Patrícia Ubeda. They have to face the teams of Mexico, Leonardo Ortizgris and Ricardo Zarraga, Italy, Deborah Fedrigucci and Tiziano Storti, and the home team, Portugal represented by Nuno Fradique and Marco Martin, while Marco Graça is in charge of the presentation.
Any of the teams has immense talent, in this art of improvising, and the referee, with the help of the public, was passing on the challenges, always with great art and grace, the public that was in the coliseu, did not stop laughing, until the last challenge.
As usual in improvised theater shows, it is from the audience that the words that serve as the motto for each improvised scene come from the audience, and that is what makes each show completely unique and unrepeatable, with the public also giving the first vote, two points, and another 2 points, are in charge of the Jury, in this edition in charge of Os Improváveis, Pedro Borges and Marta Borges.
With scenes of 2 to 5 minutes and challenges per country or mixed from two countries, represented by two improvisers each, they face each other, until everyone has faced each other, and are evaluated and scored by the public and two judges.
The referee is also an important figure in this challenge, as he is in charge of choosing the type of challenge and the words, and, of course, compliance with the rules, and with a whistle raised, he controls the challenge. The score obtained yesterday is transferred to today, which promises to be another night of fun and laughter.
But everything can change today, in this improvised comedy format, teams can play trump cards, such as exchanging scores with an opponent, if the public gives them victory in the round, thus maintaining, and following the rules, the suspense until the end.
The Impromptu World Championship is a co-production of the Coliseu with the improvisation theater collective, Espontâneo – Festival Internacional de Teatro de Improviso, which has brought to Portugal, over the last 10 years, some of the most relevant international names in this stage art.
Yesterday the winner of the best improviser of the championship was already defined, the jury chose the Italian Tiziano Storti and the Brazilian Patrícia Ubeda, and the final decision fell to the public gave the victory to Storti.
If you can, don’t miss today a good mood and laughter are guaranteed.
